Advice needed please. My 992.2 is going in for PPF front end, detailer has offered to cover headlights, but is there an issue with delamination?

Was told by the company that applied mine that they had strict instructions from their supplier not to cover Porsche headlights. They used Expel.

Range of views (I had mine done not least because of the now vast amount of road grit caused by the never-ending pothole saga) for and against. There is a thread about this on here a few weeks back in case you haven't yet come across it.

The same advice from my Expel installer.

Lots of info about this on here and I don’t think there’s a conclusive answer. I had the same dilemma as you and decided that I’d go for it and if I ever needed to remove from my lights I would do it myself so I could do it really carefully. Never needed to remove to date so not regretted my decision as yet.

I asked recently for my new GT3.

I've always had PPF on headlights, but with 992 my PPF guy told me I must choose before having it done or not. He said it now states on the Xpel system that all customers need to be made aware of the delamination issues. I'm not worried about delamination at all, but the worry for me is the fact it now also specifically states in the owners handbook not cover the headlights in PPF/film... so knowing my luck I'd end up with a faulty light unit which Porsche would then reject on warranty due to the film being fitted.

If you go on the internet, you'll fall down various rabbit holes with no definitive answer. So, the final options really are based on your risk appetite:

1. Don't PPF. Run the risk of stone/debris damage, and a faster break-down of the plastic looking tired
2. PPF. Run the risk of a warranty claim (not just delamination, but any type of headlight issue) being rejected by Porsche

Given 992 headlights are straked back, I took the opinion that headlights were of low risk and decided not to have it done. Knowing from first hand experience what Porsche GB are like, there's also too much 'voided warranty' risk for me.

Standard 992 headlights are like 4k each, without fitment, I think but, yes, my detailer advised strongly not to PPF them due to delamitation.

I assume this isn’t specific to 992 and therefore applies to 991.2? Collected mine a month ago freshly PPFed.

I have had all my 992.2s and 992.1s and 991s headlights done with PPF., never had a single problem. My 992.2 Turbo S Front lights and other bits done earlier this month.

It isnt a surprise that there is no issue on brand new cars for 1-2 years.

At the other end of the scale i had some PPF on headlights that was so old and hard it had to be sanded off as part of the headlight resto.

992.2. Mine are ppf with expel. Guy didn’t even mention delamination or anything. This is first I’ve heard of it. No issues this side but I’m assuming it’s 5 years down the line when removing that might show an issue?

I had ppf (Excel) on my 991.2 GTS from new, never any issues.

Interesting, my 992.2 was ppf'd last year and was advised that the ppf does not stay adhered to the lights plus the risk of delamination.

I'd be wary of buying a 3+ year old car with PPF on the headlights. Rather buy one with some stone chips on the lenses. But that's me...

So after looking at lots of forums and talking to a few Porsche Service managers I decided not to have the headlights ppf’d. Thanks for everyone’s help.
