Whisky as a gift

As a non-drinker and no knowledge whatsoever on Whisky, can anyone recommend me a bottle of good stuff for £100-150 that would make a nice gift for someone who has helped me out?

I’m not a Whiskey drinker either but I’m told that you can’t go wrong with a decent bottle of Macallan.

At £100-£150 you’re into the realm of some very decent whiskies and, if your friend is a keen whisky drinker, then without knowing his/her preferences, it could be an expensive mistake.

I would be inclined to purchase a voucher from Master Of Malt, and he/she can choose a preferred dram.

A decent bottle of Highland Park. Or a Balvennie.

I'd recommend these guys, call them and have a chat. Local to me but do mail order.

Get a lagavulin. They might hate it but that’s the risk buying something like this for someone and assuming cost is deciding factor of whether it’s enjoyable.

Oddly enough if I were to choose one from that chart I’d go for the one I recommended or the Dailuaine beside it.

A good Middleton Whiskey is very hard to beat at that price.

It’s like buying aftershave/perfume completely a personal thing. There’s whisky I just wouldn’t drink so could be a poor gift.

Speaking of "off the chart", I've just opened a bottle of this that I was given. Very pleasant indeed, and my first whisky foray outside the UK.
