S1 pre 98, S1 98-00, S1 Exige, S2, S2111r, S2 Exige?

Mines a 98-00 S1, if you have an earlier car with a boot bag its much easier.

Two ways one removing the rear clam and the other is skinning your knuckles and shouting at the car alot whilst trying to reach from the side/below/above.

remove rear under tray

Jack rear of car up and put on axle stands using the correct jacking points.

Remove driver side rear wheel and wheel arch liner.

From underneath remove the coil - 3 bolts 2 x 13mm and 1 x 10mm

One bolt holding the dipstick housing to the thermostat.

then remove two bolts 2 x 13mm (?) holding the metal water pipe that goes to the thermostat housing.

3 x 8mm bolts holding the stat housing together.

Then simply move the metal water pipe back and change the thermostats over.

I've done the job twice, the first time I removed the rear clam and it was relativley simple job as long as you had an assistant to pick the clam up.

The second time I did it with the clam in place it took longer because I couldnt get enough leverage on some of the bolts.

But I won't have the same hassle if it does go again as I fitted an eliseparts remote stat.
