Without (obviously) knowing for certain, perhaps the ghosts of how he was constantly being treated by his father and then in messing up his marriage, became too much and he has sought to hide that lurking shadow by drinking. The line between rationality and madness (behaviour, in his case) can be very fine.

It feels like he is living his life (boozing, women etc..) now to make up for his sheltered early year when he was too busy winning Majors!

He has been a fairly cooked person for many years now, I gather his fitness has started to return to a point, and now he does this, seems certain people a re just doomed to mess themselves up, he has done it before, so presumably has a cavalier approach to drinking and driving, seems in a courtesy car too. Or a sponsors one at that.

I thought the accusation is that he has taken an illegal substance, hence the refusal to provide a urine sample. He seems to be a troubled soul, maybe a product of his upbringing or the pressures of being a sporting icon, whatever, I very much doubt we will see him at Augusta now.

Just reading when he had his last crash and he had lots of prescription drugs and marijuana in his system. More of the same and potentially illegal prescription drugs?

He was in a bad way after his original crash, so likely be the usual American way and be hooked on prescription pain meds. Whatever the cause he will be fore this morning.

Same over here, if you refuse to provide, then you get charged with that offence.

And they may well have conducted Field impairment testing at the roadside or in the station which can help to prove an impairment.

He's a troubled bloke, may well be addicted to drugs, both legal and illegal. look at Michael jackson, Doc's over there seem to prescribe all sorts of very strong medications, especially if you're rich and famous.

Tbh, the US has a cavalier attitude to drinking and driving. Outside of the cities, it's the norm (and tbh, even inside them).

This is backed up by the penalties. You wouldn't just get a smallish fine for drink driving in the UK or (iirc) anywhere in Europe) - that's the norm in the US.

I've been driven by a colleague's wife, who had to use a breathalyser interlock before the car would start... There is no stigma over there for being caught.
