Bob Monkhouse Repair Shop episode pulled
Discussion
Turns out many of his 'books' contained inappropriate material which upset a member of the production crew.

Whilst I agree, why not just use the material that wasn't rather than can the whole episode?
Unless of course, it all contained offensive material!
I watched a documentary about him a few years ago, and he appeared to be a very troubled soul, as were many comedians of that era.

I met him once, he was doing an after dinner speech at a posh hotel I used to work at, he seemed very amiable, laughing and joking with us waiting staff behind the scenes waiting to go on. I met lots of famous people in that role, he sticks out as being one of the ones to go out of his way to be nice to everyone, and that was probably 25 years ago, so he made a positive impression on me at least.
We all know attitudes to a lot of things were very different when he was in his prime.

...and I know he had some bad experiences in the business and spoke out about it which makes me think it's very unlikely he'd inflict similar on others. We all know attitudes to a lot of things were very different when he was in his prime.
We need to judge people/art by the standards of the time. There's a youtube video with scenes from Grange Hill that I found utterly shocking to watch. Pretty sure viewers of kid's TV weren't shocked at the time.
Anyway, my bet is BM was one of the good guys and his jokes were fine by the standards of the time. (Or maybe he wrote them down aware they were not acceptable and planned to modify the gag before using it - The Two Ronnies did exactly that - the original target of the 'yokels' jokes was not 'yokels'.)

Why do organisations continue to change course on the complaint of one person? I find it so odd. You're always going to get at least one nutter who whines about stuff, why let the absolute tiny minority dictate how things go?
In this case one nutter and one *single* sexist joke.Or did the BBC do this to generate publicity? It's worked.

I didn't realise Stweie worked for the BBC!
though tbh it would explain a lot
I find his username offensive, it mocks the mentally disabled. though tbh it would explain a lot
He should be banned.
This is how the world works nowadays.
Something could be offensive to someone, somewhere. So it gets banned.
I suspect Bob Monkhouse was a bit near the bone on occasion, those were the times, maybe just omit any jokes that wouldnt pass scrutiny these days ?
Its weird cancelling everything because some wet wipe cant cope with it, then you see the horrors on the news every night at 6pm.
Its funny how much worse themes are allowed in certain music genres played on the BBC though.

Do we know how much they had actually done with regards the programme?
The linked article says:
"The restoration of the books was to be filmed at the show’s barn in Singleton, West Sussex, for a special tribute programme, to be aired this year."
Can a TV programme be "pulled" if it's not actually been filmed?

The BBC is a mess and desperate.
Maybe the new Google guy can straighten it out ?
Don't hold your breath. His CV suggest he'll be On Message with the rest of the bunch.Maybe the new Google guy can straighten it out ?
The BBC has cornered itself into a position of fear.
