Reason i ask is that over the years of stamp collecting, i have amassed an enormous amount of duplicates....At the last count (they are all valid GB ones from the prestige books) they total over 1k. I have put them on ebay for less than half value and not a sniff ...over 250 are 1st class which will just increase in value....another 10p next month....and the rest are all specific values.

I was hoping a charity/club that still posts stuff would jump atvthe chancd. but not a sniff.
I am wondering if we are now ultra cautious in seeing genuine offers as scams...
So if anyone knows of a site that covers such stuff or an organisation who still posts and who would like to halve their postage costs for a while, tell them to pm me...pics are available.

"We ve added barcodes to all our regular stamps. Regular stamps without a barcode* are no longer valid for postage. This follows the introduction of a 6 month grace period from the initial 31 January 2023 deadline."

You asked the same question earlier

Looks like you can "swap out" your old stamps.

Use them as wallpaper in your toilet.
Lick a stamp and stick tit o the wall every time you go for a 'sit down' smile

As I understand it, commemorative stamps with special artwork etc were not included in the barcoding, and as such the obdolescence does not apply to them.

If these are the kinds of stamps you have, perhaps it's worth getting confirmation of that from Royal Mail, including a screenshot or copy of their confirmation in your advert/listing, and making it explicitly clear that these are still valid stamps.

Don't post anything any longer unless it's pre-paid or an ebay label.

A sensible reply...Thanks Yes All commemorative stamps are still legal for postage. irrespective when they were issued,.as long as they are decimal thst after Feb 1971.

Most of the stamps i have are 1st class from booklets i bought where just one stam!!! was required..I had a shedful of prestige booklets that had the stamps known as Machins.... these were the ones with just the queens head, and i sent off over 400 of them and get a batch of QEII 1st and second class,QR coded along with a mumber that were just plain value.

I had a similar ish experience when a grandparent passed away - hundreds of collectors edition stamps spanning decades and only one of them was worth anything more than face value and that was one about Princess Diana...

But yeah, I guess it's tough to sell via ebay such a large volume - have you tried splitting them up? People might be more willing to buy a tenth at a time rather than a kilo all at once.... Or whatever we were talking about biggrin

I think it's too much for people to spend in one go. I think you'd end up breaking them down into really small lots.

All the clubs like that i know have gone to emails or social media for keeping in contact.

I’d list them on Facebook and forget about it, eventually you’ll get interest from someone collecting in person

Mark

Several reasons i will not be doing that

1) it only applied to stamps that just had the Queens head on known as 'Machins'

2) the offer for change out of machins ended some time ago

3) The Royal Mail advised at the time that all other stamps were to continue as valid postage, this included all commeratives , past and present and Crhistmas Thermed Stamps

4) i did change out all of the machins that i had in the prestige booklets at the time and recieved back the new QR coded stamp
in lieu..In fact i have over £400 worth of the new issues. so more stamps i do not need...

In Fact ANY stamp issued that carried decimal value is valid to be used EXCEPT those of solely the Queens head

Yes, absolutely crazy. I still remember prices from the late 90s onwards.

Only using second class now.

As posted above, it’s collection only - don’t get scammed. No postage involved.
