Ok so I currently have a BMW M2 (G87) and have owned it for 2 years. It’s been an amazing car with zero complaints.

I now have about £6–7k positive equity, and since I usually change cars every 2–3 years, I’m considering my options. The issue is the M2 is so good for the money that most alternatives feel like either a sideways move or a downgrade. I’m not interested in an M3 or M4 since they’re too similar, and I’m not looking at Audi or Mercedes, no thx

I’ve been considering the Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 and the Jaguar F‑Type R. I’m leaning toward the F-Type R because it’s cheaper and I’ve always wanted a loud V8—ideally a convertible to enjoy the sound with the roof down.

At the same time, I’m waiting to hear from BMW UK about possibly getting my hands on the new CS model and there is a fair chance I probably will be able to get one.
But my hesitation is that it may feel like staying in essentially the same car.

So my options are:
1. Keep my M2 and only change if I get the M2 CS.
2. Keep the M2 if I don’t get the CS.
3. Swap the M2 for a Cayman GT4.
4. Swap the M2 for an F-Type R.

What would you do in my situation? Heeellllpppppppp

Have you had either a flat 6 or a v8 before? If not, make the change - both of those are good examples of each.

My main decision would be do you want a proper sports coupe (cayman) or more of a big gt car (f type)

I went M2 Comp to 981 Spyder. The M2 was fast, but that’s about it. The 981 is in another league for sheer driving pleasure and feedback, handling, sound and everything else. The gt4 will be the same.

OP through no fault of my own (theft), I made a similar jump from M2 Competition to a 718 Cayman GTS 4.0 (same engine as the GT4 but software robbed of 20 bhp, not that you can really feel it).

The M2C was fast but handling wise was "decent" compared to other Coupes. The Cayman is in a totally different league. There's a finesse in the Porsche that the M2C simply didn't have.

On track that gulf is made even bigger so if you go GT4 and plan to do the odd track day, you really won't be disappointed.

My tuppence
