Parked in the station car park, in a spot I have parked before, and have seen others parked in.
Not touching yellow line, right in front of a sign inviting paying by phone.....

I've sent them a screenshot of my payment for that day, I wasn't trying to get away with not paying.

I assume that the fine is because you didn't park in an actual parking space?

^^^^ That being the case I think you are guilty as charged but I would have thought the Ts & Cs are the place to go.

I'd appeal that one on the basis that the signage is unclear and as the yellow markings have worn away you could assume that the parking bay markings had too.

Unfortunately the slam dunk that land on which railway byelaws are in force is not "relevant land" in the application of the Protection of Freedoms Act was taken away a couple of months ago, so you can't use that defence.

Before I appealed a few of these and gained some knowledge, Mrs W paid up for "failing to park in a marked bay" although the marked bays were covered in snow at the time she parked.

Yeah I do fear the lack of one white line of paint might cost me £50.
Hoping they’ll see a bit of sense and tell me that’s not an actual space and don’t do it again. But doubt it now I think about it

Ask for a refund on the ticket you bought.

They can't have it both ways.

That looks like a space to me, even got a sign on it and the car fits.

Usually when I read these threads I chuckle at the OPS.

But, I think everybody would park in that space. I think they are offside frankly. (Unless there's a mahoosive arrow just out of shot saying don't park here hehe)

It's not a fine, it's an invoice.

Are there any signs that say you must park in a marked bay?

I hadn't noticed the pofa 2012 was recently changed to bring railway land in scope (Jan 2026)

https://www.legislationtracker.co.uk/article/prote...

Someone must have lobbied hard for that to happen...I wonder what the government got from the parking industry in return?

I assume it still leaves airports out of scope of relevant land, although I saw something online that airports could choose themselves whether to apply pofa 2012 or not (?)

Anyway this is off topic: I think that parking is reasonable, but ultimately it will be a magistrate deciding so it depends on signage, context with the rest of the car part etc.

yes Not an unreasonable place to park IMO, they're trying it on.

Motor vehicles, bicycles and other conveyances may be parked only if parking space is available. Motor vehicles, bicycles and other conveyances must be parked in the designated bays/areas. Motor vehicles, bicycles and other conveyances must not be parked out of bay.

If they wanted people not to park there they could have used some of that yellow paint they've clearly got to cross it out

.... or put up a notice that says to park in marked bays only.

Ts & Cs are all well & good, they always remind me of a little reminder that was at the start of each chapter of an online computer course I did years ago.

"If all else fails read the instructions".

Looks like the rest of the car park has white lined bays, albeit quite faded.
