How does everyone find the fuel gauge?

I am finding it incredibly inconsistent and plummets in range despite only doing a short journey at slow, but not too stop-start progress. This morning I set off with 320 mile range. I’ve only driven something like 6 miles and I’m now looking at 280 mile range. Those 6 miles couldn’t have been more sedate also.

Whilst I know it isn’t exactly an economy car, the gauge would suggest there is a 6l twin turbo V8 up front with a hole in the fuel tank.

Similar experiences or known issues with sender units?

The distance to empty isn't the fuel gauge. Its an ECU calculation based on past driving, and current driving, and whats in the tank. Any short journey is going to plummet the DTE estimate, because of cold start and not getting up to temp etc., so the estimated DTE will plummet.
Go on nice run along a M-Way and you'll likely see the DTE hardly drop over 50-60 miles as it recalculates on the fly.
