Not been to a GP for many years but going to Silverstone this year. Plan is general admission / walkabout Friday, bit of Corporate Hospitality on Saturday (Corinthian Lounge) and Boxpark for the Sunday.

I've read some of the other circuits aren't friendly to what looks like pro-camera gear and just wondered how the land lays for Silverstone. I'm a semi-pro togger so have big lenses but this would just be for my own fun.

I used to know all the gaps and spots so interested to know if it's now just a sea of black meshing or whether you can still get a lens pointing somewhere useful.

I went in 2021 and 2022 with my old camera gear, a Canon 5D mk2 and 70-300 lens. Nobody bats an eyelid, saw plenty others taking shots too. You can get decent shots from most grandstands.

This. Get grandstand seats and try different grandstands during practice sessions.

Picture from last year...

A few of mine, I say 'old' camera as I rarely use it these days, my phone takes better shots in 90% of situations but for something as quick as an F1 car you need a 'proper' camera!

You can get a decent variety of shots from the different grandstands. Even moving a few rows/seats can make a difference to the viewpoint. Friday was my favourite session as it was quiet and you could move about easily.

I suspect your best pics will come from wandering around - people queuing for a burger etc.

Oddly, I quite like this type of photography. Obviously the on-track stuff is the hero shots but quite nice to capture the scenes that show the event and experience.

Thanks all for the feedback!
