My Hyundai Ioniq 5 is due a 4 year service shortly, I've been quoted £560 by a Hyundai dealer. A local trusted independent has quoted £310 for the same work, they would use genuine parts, fully itemised bill etc, etc. Biggest job is battery coolant change. Independent says they could do it and would source the fluid from Hyundai.

It's quite likely I'll be changing cars in the next 12 months, part-ex against something yet to be decided.

Could going the independent route be false economy, would the non Hyundai dealer service affect the part-ex value?

If I did have trouble with the car in the next 12 minths (it has a 5 year warranty) would Hyundai wriggle about warranty and non-main dealer service?

Anyone with experience care to give advice/opinion?

If you have a VAT invoice showing they used genuine parts etc then the warranty won't be an issue.

For £250 you might be best just throwing it at Hyundai to make life easier on trade-in though, especially if you might trade in with them.

My 3 year old Ioniq 5 has never been near a main dealer.

Wouldn't trust them.

TBH I would be nervous about the warranty - Hyundai are known to be awkward at the best of times.

As for the value - it may affect the p/x but of couse would be dismissed as an issue if you were buying.

Bought our Kona through a broker and only had one service so far - dealer was spectacularly clueless and they came recommended and they were no1 in the UK for after-sales service last year. Goodness knows what a bad dealer would be like. I had £200 stolen off me for a stamp in the book, and they ticked the wrong service box even then!

Thanks all.

Another question. Vehicle history is all online with Hyundai. If I go to an independent for service can the history be updated online also?

Don't know, but I'd be surprised / amazed if it's possible, and if Hyundai would do it.

The heading on the service history page says "Hyundai Approved Authorised Repairer" - who knows, maybe another can appear that says "random garage"?

You could try asking Hyundai UK but I had months of back and forth over the very simple question of whether, for body warranty puposes, our car needed to be seen by the dealer annually.

Another thing for dealer servicing is they renew the roadside assistance cover. If you don't have cover any other way then there's some value in that. You might have to prompt them to renew it.
