Quickest / easiest way to France, Mainland Europe and back.

I used to buy the Flexi Eurotunnel tickets, rock up and go bypassing pretty much all of the queues.
But it's seems now this is getting far more expensive and at the same time much more restrictive.
Has there been any change in others offerings, is there any companies from Dover that have fast customs lanes etc...
I'm not massively bothered about the actual crossing time I just don't want the gamble on many hours spent queuing.
The time before last coming back through Calais at the tunnel was abysmal.

Depends where you’re heading in Europe. I quite like the Dover-dunkirk line. Takes 2hrs so 30 mins more than Dover Calais but saves that in driving time the other side if that’s the way you’re heading.
I used to use the tunnel but it’s now usually much more than the ferry, so I’d rather save the cash and spend it on something else!

As previously mentioned, it really does depend on where you're going in Europe, where you live in the UK and what your overall approach is to travelling.
I find the most pleasant and relaxing way to get to Europe with my car is to take an overnight ferry, either from Harwich or Portsmouth. There's much less traffic on these routes so far fewer issues with getting through passport control / customs. Book a nice cabin, have a relaxing dinner on the boat, a couple of drinks in the bar and then sleep.
Perfect if your eventual destination is somewhere like Italy. However, it's not really much use if you're heading to Le Touquet for a couple of nights
