On this day in 1986 britain's favourite tradesmen came back for a second outing.... Auf Wiedershien Pet made a return to the screens, A few changes made, This time doing up an old folks home, and then a villa in Spain. Introduced us to Ally Fraser, Big Baz and had us on a wild journey that went no where near Germany this time. Still the best but this series was tight with the first one, still cant decide what was better, 1 and 2 are very close indeed. 2nd one unfortunately was affected by the untimely illness of Caroline who played the wife of Denis. which ended up with Dennis back with his sister which was played by Jimmy Nails sister Val. 10 outta 10 for story recovery. as there was still some story between Dennis and Vera to be played out, Dennis picking the Tyne and not the Rhine. The angst you could cut with a knife. ah came back to this bonny lad, Dennis does the right thing for everyone else bar Dennis. A theme that prevails, and a signature with Ian and Dicks writing, Trapped. Porridge with Ronnie Barker in a cell and that 1st series in the hut on a building site in Dusseldorf... Brilliantly written and of its time. the de industrialisation of the UK. Sadly Gary Holton passed away during the filiming of the series. Which complicated scenes due to the filiming sequence that was adopted. We saw the second series come to an end. And that was that. Well it would have been until the did a concert for Sunday for Sammy and decided to do a skit based on the characters from Auf Pet. The audience went ballistic, enough to stun them. And they thought there was life in that series. we got a few more and a christmas special, off of the back of that ballistic crowd response.
I was lucky enough to get to the 40th Anniversary held in Newcastle where they had Dennis Oz Neville and Moxey on the stage along with a few others from the series. That was a good show.
