Superb SportLine - Dragon Green/Sheep in Wolfs Clothing
Discussion
Long story short, my Enyaq on Salary Sacrifice was due to go back. I was tempted to buy it, but I was seduced by a cheaper Renault 5 on a similar deal rather than financing the car (even though it was a bit of a steal!). This meant we needed a larger car for my wife than her current Fabia, for longer trips and with additional family members.
After owning a "PH Spec" Superb 280 L&K a while back ( THREAD) but running it through work (and therefore not worrying about the mid twenties mpg), we knew we liked the cars, but wanted something more economical.
Not being too keen on diesels and being concerned with long-term DSG reliability, I thought I would seek out a 1.4 Petrol Manual (a fairly unusual engine/gearbox for a Superb!).
We always liked the idea of a Dragon Green Superb, so we were very surprised to find the car below, which fit the bill perfectly, being a 1.4 TSI ACT Manual with only 47,000 miles. It was a couple of months early, miles away in Cardiff, and at a *sigh* car supermarket of sorts (Sytner Select). It was also slightly over budget (as I was originally looking at SE-L models with higher mileage).
Naturally, not wanting to miss out, I reserved the car and arranged a viewing straight away. After a couple of trips back and forth on the train (at the dealer's expense, because of wobbly wheels), we finally bought the car:

Now for the slightly unusual part, which I had noticed as soon as I spotted the car - The spec. Apart from the engine, gearbox and paint, the car also had some unusual options like DCC (I'd have rather avoided this, due to the cost of the shocks), CANTON stereo, auto-main beam, reversing camera, hill-start assist, upgraded nav, traffic sign recognition and powered tailgate.
Who would order the cheapest engine/gearbox, the most sporty-looking trim level, the most expensive/lairy-looking paint, and the cheapest engine and gearbox option available, and then (as I discovered by MOT history) cover just 80 miles in the first three years of its life?
I started investigating this through a motoring journalist friend and the Skoda UK Press office, who eventually found out that the car was a static display inside the Skoda UK Technical centre for the first 3 years of its life. I therefore assume it was ordered to look good, but not go anywhere and potentially showcase some of the newly available options available on the range. I'd love to find some photos of it in there, the original reg is OE67 FTX.
A mildly interesting story for a couple who have become unintentional "daily car" Skoda fans, as this is our 5th..
Anyway, we love the car, it has more than enough power to complete the school run with ease, and we hope this will be a solid car for the next few years!
If you got this far, thanks for reading.

That does look lovely, always wanted a Superb, is long term DSG reliability really a worry now though? Plenty out there with moon miles on them. However enjoy
Not sure on the DSG to be honest, it's a personal thing, but my old one always felt a bit like it was on its last legs for some reason. Saying that I'm used to old German cars with proper auto boxes. The car also had a late first DSG service by the previous owner and might not have been looked after as well as it should have been.
What a great find!
I love the colour the spec and the fact that it is effectively a new 3 year old car, although I'm not sure about a 1.4 turbo in something the size of a Superb. But having said that the engine works fine in my nephew's Octavia estate so maybe it's just a reflection of my addiction to N/A straight 6s.
