i'm trying to locate a footbridge over a river in Wales.

I am researching places my father cycled to from east London as a teenager just before WWII but I am stuck identifying where this distinctive dry-stone pillared bridge might be. I have identified Llanstephan suspension bridge from another photo so it could be anywhere from South Wales to Snowdonia. I've tried descriptive search, image search with and without AI and Google maps and street view where bridges might be all to no avail so I am hoping someone might be able to help where the internet has failed!

The bridge deck is steel girders with steel railings. The bridge is supported by a dry-stone pillar. The river is shallow. The bridge deck is about 1.5m above the river. The photo was taken c1939 so the bridge was built before then. It looks like a footbridge rather than traffic and I could be persuaded it's over a ford for cars.

It looks like a 'clapper bridge' that is in the process of being repaired. There are a few on Dartmoor, Bodmin Moor and Exmoor.

Here's a pic of one to give you an idea.

No idea, but Beddgelert seems unlikely. https://oneplacestudy.org/beddgelert/places-to-vis...

I don’t think the specific one it has suggested is right but it’s interesting to see the thought process.

My instant thought was Beddgelert. I've seen this bridge, but can't place it.

Other thought, near Betws y coed?

Thanks everyone for pitching in with suggestions. Nothing so far is an exact match acknowledging it was over 85yrs ago. To be sure I'd need to see a side view so google and street view aren't that helpful.

We know he was in the Brecon, Beddgelert YHA and Idwal YHA areas

I've found this on the Taff Trail (called helpfully 'grassy bridge') but again I need to see the supports; they seem to be brick. And the handrail uprights aren't round like the original. Similar in design though!

Post it on some Wales/Snowdonia FB group. It's probably the mountains in the background that will give a definitive answer as the bridge will have almost certainly been rebuilt.

Send the pic to Geowizard on youtube - he seems to find obscure locations.
