Being widely reported. Guy must be in a horrendous condition if he's unrecognisable.

"The Irish Independent also understands that the attackers left the victim but one returned a short time later and snapped the injured male's arm as he lay defenceless on the ground."

Bloody hell.

Weird they felt it necessary to repeatedly claim 'Dublin is a safe city', maybe that isn't obvious?

At least they seem to have arrested a couple of people.

I'm off to Dublin next week. A good reason to avoid Temple Bar.

Had my stag in Dublin in 2003, only 5 of us, I’m a miserable fecker, lol.

Walking back towards city centre from the Guinness brewery tour we spotted a short cut across a park, we weren’t 20 foot in when we were jumped by Garda, suggesting we didn’t continue through the park, and took the long route back.

Said druggie scallywags in the park were known to jump you, hold a needle to your neck, say it was infected and rob you, bless em.

Strangely I’ve never felt the urge to venture back.

Parts of Dublin are really quite nice, the north inner city and temple bar are as sketchy as fk though

There's been quite a few serious assaults recently with a number of foreign tourists being attacked, I think the US issued a travel advisory after a couple of very nasty attacks on US tourists with one being left in a coma

Recently two Guards ( Police) on foot patrol in Temple Bar were attacked by a sole knife-wielding attacker with one receiving quite serious injuries

Beating someone up to that extent, inc smashing a electric scooter onto their head, then coming back to break their arm, and take off and throw away their shoes - hard not to conclude it wasn't random.

We've been in and around the Temple Bar area today and tonight. Felt safe, it's busy, more beggars than I'd expected, but they're not aggressive.
We commented how nice it was to see a fair few Garda walking around, and only heard this news on the hotel TV just now, so now it makes more sense.
