Mk8 Golf GTi Clubsport Infotainment screen frozen
Discussion
Hi all,
Looking for some practical advice from anyone who’s been through this…
My MK8 GTI touchscreen has been completely frozen since the big update back in November. The car went back to VW multiple times within the first 3 years for similar issues, but now that it’s a 2021 and out of manufacturer warranty, they’re refusing to help.
Their solution? A full screen replacement at £2.5K — for the screen alone 🤯
I’m really struggling to accept that these units can’t be repaired, so I’m exploring other options before going down that route.
A few questions:
Has anyone had a similar issue and managed to get the screen repaired successfully?
Are there any reputable repair services out there?
Would fitting a used screen be a viable option?
If so, does it need to be like-for-like, or can screens be coded (e.g. GTI logo etc.) to suit?
For context, I’ve already removed the screen myself and have all part numbers. There seem to be plenty of similar units available online.
I’m not looking to battle VW on this — just want a reliable, realistic fix.
Love the car, but this has dragged on long enough… just want my screen working again!
Any advice or real-world experience would be hugely appreciated.
Cheers 👍

Top lurking!
My sisters 2024 mk8.5 has just come back from VW after the screen totally failed, it’s still not right now.
If the issue was there when it was in the warranty period and it hasn’t been resolved, surely they can’t just turn around and say ‘hey, we didn’t fix it but it’s your problem now’.
I would seek some legal advice on this.
