My shed is a very decent and reliable 56 reg Mitsubishi lancer, recently when doing thr wheel alignment the the mechanic pointed out that rhebsub frsme is corroded but not too badly yet

I would like to know if anyone has repaired something similar and if so how much does it cost and lastly if you guys know a place in Surrey who can tackle this

I would hate to eventually scrap an otherwise perfectly reliable car due to this

Looks fairly crusty but if it s still solid after a wire brushing just treat and paint with appropriate products from there.

Not Hammerite as it s good on a garden gate but subframes flex slightly and it cracks.

Take those plastic trays off to get a clear run at it.

I think that would either need removing/blasting/recoating or just replacing, which would probably be cheaper, it is pretty bad.

needle gun or sandblast and see whats left , id be surprised if its just that bit in the photo , is the rest of the car in similar condition?

anyway , it needs to some serious attention , its beyond a bit of rust treatment

Belzona? Cheaper to buy a new subframe.

I suffered this and was seemingly a near catastrophic incident when the toe link mount sheared off as it was so rusty. If it had happened a few miles later on the dual carriageway (and not the quaint little back road I had been on) this, at 70mph would have been (probably) goodnight Vienna.

You cannot weld a subframe or modify etc so the only thing I could do was source another one from a scrappy, spend a week tidying it up and then using most of Bilt Hambers catalog of products.....

I was angry with the MOT garage who had passed the car only 3 months earlier (no advisories), annoyed with myself for not getting under there and checking it thoroughly but all in all the car is now sorted and underside pristine/safe.

Was a costly and tiresome experience.....

Remove and strip to inspect really, does look bad in places.
You never know until its cleaned off really and its difficult to do on the car.

Same here im very annoyed with the MOT garage as they did it in Sept and just said surface rust, also thry did a service with parts supplied by me just last week and never bothered to tell me

Fortunately I went to get a wheel alignment done at Kwik Fit in Aldershot and they called me in and showed this plus the oil sump nut was seeping oil too (something that the garage didnt bother when thry changed oil)
Im so angry for not going under the car to have a look before

Apart from the subframe and the ac which does not work the car is in great shape and its a shame scrap it due to this

My old Mondeo looked worse than that and it cleaned up surprisingly well, give it a go before you condemn it
