Water pipes

Hi, I want to rip a hedge ote and replace with a fence but I suspect the presence of pipes. How did i check? Cheers in advance.

I've done it before by digging a few exploratory holes along the line of where the fence will be.

If you do find a pipe mark it with a stick and string to make sure you miss it with your fence posts.
