I've loved the past 3 years of my Civic - such a special car and some wonderful memories on great road trips. One of the only negatives is the small fuel tank, where I've struggled to get even 38 litres in with the range down in single figures. Not the end of the world, and normally coincides with when you fancy a break / coffee on long trips. Supposed to hold 45 litres, but I've got nowhere near...

However, I read Steve Sutcliffe's glowing review of his long termer in Auto Express last week:

https://www.autoexpress.co.uk/honda/civic/367781/l...

He talks about the small fuel tank too, but said he decided to drive whilst showing 0 range and see what happened. Apparently he went 22 miles with the range on 0 and could still only get 41 litres into the tank.

I decided to try the same this week, but lost my nerve after 5 miles of driving on "0". And could only fit 39 litres in. Seems like I'm not trying hard enough...

How far has anyone else pushed it? Do I need to just man up and drive 40 miles+ with it on zero??

FK8 does the same thing...

Probably a feature rather than a bug to keep the Low pressure fuel pump from overheating / starvation

Thank you - that was really helpful!

I've always assumed the fuel tank was smaller than claimed, but sounds like it is just the float level of the sensor. Will ask Honda to adjust when it next goes in for a service. And in the meantime I can be confident of driving with 0 distance left.

Only 30-40 miles difference, but in reality that is 15% more per tank, so significant!

Honda seem to like under reporting things. If the results of two stock FL5 Type R's power outputs being measured are to be believed, then we're running 340bhp:
