Hey all!

I'm well aware that, as with all engines, its largely dependant on service history and regular oil changes - as well as cambelt and water Pp changes; but what kind of miles, on average, is the EA113 capable of reaching?

If different people have different experiences as far as service history vs longevity are concerned, and can share those, I'd love to hear about them to get a wide range of opinions! Appreciating sometimes you can get very lucky with poorly serviced vehicles, and very unlucky with immaculate ones.

For context, I am looking at buying a car for around £6k and was surprised to see a couple of clean looking but ~100k mi 8P Audi S3s on the market. The idea is I want to purchase something enjoyable to drive, which will last a decent amount of years at around 10k mi/year. Is the EA113, at 100k mi a decent starting point? Or should I look elsewhere?

I had a Mk5 GTI but sadly had to say goodbye at around 77k miles after being driven into in a McDs carpark of all places...! Was overdue a cambelt and water Pp and still never gave me any hassle!

Thanks all!

Seems to be the cam follower for the fuel pump (as you've no doubt found) and due to the direct injection only on these that they are prone to carbon deposits in the intake which are typicall cleaned with walnut blasting. Seem solid enough, but a lot of these have gone for scrap now so they may be good ones.
Get the belts done at the same time.

I should also point out that they rust - wings and sills especially!

Colleague just sold his 130k mile 2010 S3 which ran/drove very nicely. Getting to the age it's wanted suspension bits doing but mechanicals are good. Didn't even use oil excessively. His son has a 2007 A4 with ~170k that also (despite aged suspension) drives very well.

Both nicely maintained cars, oil every year etc.

FTW

HPFP cam follower. Mine failed at 23k miles (part had been in for only 2k miles).

The ea113 generation of TFSI is far more robust than the later gen 1 and 2 TSI ea888 motors

My mk5 GTi has 188k on it, over 100 of those have been with a remap , the engine and running gear are the most robust parts of the car. There are a few dozen S3s within the 150-200k territory for sale right now which is promising!!!
