Mrs Fungle and I have decided on an alternative holiday this year by looking at travelling from Yorkshire with our Dachshunds and taking in the Champagne region before heading over to Saint-Malo.

If you you think wine was involved in this plan, you'd be right.

Is this a really bad idea?

Intent would be stay in nice Gite's and enjoy the general vibe of the area rather than kick the arse out of exploring every last square inch but being honest, this would be our first trip of this sort to France.

Looking at the distances involved I'm inclined to leave the Champagne region out and just enjoy a week or so by the coast.

There isn't any wine to speak of on the north coast, and not much west of Champagne/Burgundy without going a fair bit south to the Loire, for instance.

I’d spend the time in champagne. It’s a fabulous area.

I know and I'm torn between the two.

My assumption -without having been there- is that Brittany will be more dog friendly and perhaps a bit more relaxing for a general mooch and explore.
