Hi,

Weve just moved house and ive noticed our lawn is very mossy (and getting worse). It is a sandy subsoil, and doeant seem to retain water in the same way that a clay soil would.

Any tips to get a good lawn going would be appreciated!

Thanks.

After five weeks of constant rain this is happening to lawns everywhere.

The moss has probably taken over because the grass did not have sufficient nutrients . Nutrients are washed out of sandy soils and need replenishing with regular feed to maintain a good lawn. If it's really sandy maybe add some humous in the form of fine compost material . At least I assume you have good drainage. Are there any trees casting shade ?

It's mid February FFS. Be happy it's sort of green not just brown mud.

Start early in the year.
Scarify to remove the moss (it will look worse until the grass grows…)
Overseed once the temperature gets into double digits regularly.

Mine is the same, moss everywhere but due to the almost constant rain and nearly flooding the garden has been waterlogged for months. I also apparently are sitting on quite a clay based soil.

I was thinking about getting a load, and it would be a load as it's quite a big area of Liquid Gypsum to try and get some better drainage?
