Is it actually possible to fry an egg in a stainless pan? Ive watched all the tutorials. I heat the pan till water beads, coat the pan with oil, lower the heat, allow it to release and it still welds itself to the bottom of the pan. What am I doing wrong or is it impossible.

Its not impossible but there is a reason non-stick is popular.

(if you are a real masochist, use more oil (a lot more) and a low heat, crack the egg in very gently and do not touch until the white is cooked)

It's not impossible, but it is probably not worth it.

Great for steaks. Crap for omelettes.

A small, cast pan for a single egg is under £10. Appreciate it's not what you asked, they just do the job very good.

Lower temperature pan and warmed the egg in my pocket while the pan was heating up and it hardly stuck at all.

I was given a load of SS pans and cant get on with them at all, doesn't matter how many videos I watch on how to use them.

Have recently bought a new non stick for sauces etc and a SS for eggs and meat.
Just like the tutorials show. Heat til it beads, butter in, bit of oil, crack the egg in, turn heat down, leave it until the base is cooked then release with a plastic slice.

Couple of years ago in the search of making perfect Crepes I bought a rather expensive Le Creuset enamelled cast iron pan. I was assured (unlike cast iron) it would be perfect out of the box and not to season it! It was rubbish!! So many Youtube vids later I came across BuzzyWaxx and this video..............





I did 3 coats and confirmed it works like a dream. The key is every time you apply a coat in the process is to totally wipe it dry before the heating stage in the oven. I've since coated most of our pans including Stainless Steel and it most definitely works. Also clean them after cooking with just a sponge and water only.
