Hi folks,

Looking for some advice. I'm hoping to take my 15 year old son away for a couple of days next month so we can play a bit of golf which (believe it or not) he needs to do for his PE GCSE.

I'm struggling to find details on places that you can hire clubs/buy a package holiday with hotel, golf and club hire all in. Anyone got any recommendations please?

Short flight to Portugal, stay in a hotel in Vale de Lobo, play the Ocean and Royal courses.

You can book all that yourself and head over with a backpack each. It's what I do when I need a break!

Booking the golf tee times this close can be tricky - They tend to be booked solid months in advance - We've done Vilamoura a couple of times, and most recently Fuengirola in Spain (also a good choice course wise). I've also done Belek several times in the last few years, and have played nearly every course on that stretch of coast.

The option is usually to book either a) a Jet2 package holiday for the hotel and the flights and then book the golf separately or b) a golf holiday company that sorts out the hotel and and golf, leaving you to book the flights separately

I'd start by seeing if you can get tee times somewhere and work the plan out around that.

If you want UK, Marriott offer short golf packages e.g. 1 night stay with 2 games + some including dinner etc.. Unsure about club hire, so worth dropping a call with their pro shop.
Only downside is the UK weather so course conditions won't be ideal.

Bit of a longer flight but check out Aphrodite Hills in Cyprus - normaly a few deals about and they have the biggest collection of rental clubs I have ever seen so you'll have no problems there.

Thanks guys.

We have our own clubs here but don't have all the kit to transport them on a flight and the weather here is ste hence my desire to book something abroad.

Some good suggestions there; I'll have a look at some of those. Doesn't need to be a fancy course so hopefully will be able to get a tee time booked somewhere!

Issue you’ll have with Portugal is the weather. It’s currently terrible and no guarantees if won’t be raining in February.

Maybe give Dubai some consideration. Probably similar cost for the golf, accommodation and flight (dependant where you stay), but will costs more once your there, ie food and drink, but the golf courses are fantastic and weather will be mid/late 20’s with little to no chance of rain.

If you want nice weather then maybe take a look at Costa Adeje golf in Tenerife. Lots of options for places to stay at different price points and just book the golf. I didn’t play but stayed close in December and the courses looked nice. They do club hire.
