Finding 1-to-1 tuition
Discussion
I have a significant birthday in about 18-months and being quizzed as to what I might like as a gift. The only thing that is really in my mind is getting some proper driving tuition.
About 20 years ago I had about 10 days worth of advanced driver training through work, which I absolutely loved and it really improved both my standard of driving and the enjoyment I got from being behind the wheel for a long time afterwards. I think it was helped a lot by the instructor being a really engaging (and very funny) character who was a serving police driver trainer at the time. Over the years though things have slipped a bit, I've fallen back into old habits, occasionally find myself getting caught by surprise etc. It would be nice to get back some of that skill and mindset. I'm not bothered about getting a certificate or badge at the end.
So, how do I go about finding such a person in my area (NW) and knowing they'll be good?

https://www.drivingmasters.uk/
Founded by PH originator PetrolTed, so it must be good.
They even do gift vouchers.

I'm not sure, but if that is correct it would very close. Is said gentleman good?
Reg is top tier, a very good teacher and a nice bloke to boot. He's former police trafpol, police advanced course instructor and examiner, and last I heard was still examining for IAM. Very reasonable rates, too. I've been out with him several times over the years, and never failed to leave much better off than when I started. You can get some info and contact him via his website.There are lots of graduates of this course in PH;

Your nearest course manager is West Wales or Wilts/Oxon though the Kent based manager will travel if it fits in with his other work (he works for Driving Masters too).
I have never been out driving with Reg Local but from his videos, I’d say he would be a very good place to start as his is, er, local to you.

Thanks, I've watched a couple videos now, a good watch. I recognise ise some of the roads too!I've driven with RegLocal. Nice bloke and exactly what you'd expect from someone with his background and experience. Given where you are, a day out with him would be well worth it.
As with all advanced work -- you'll get more out of it if you've built up a little learning and discipline first - so brush off what you remember from your previous training, read Roadcraft, do some thoughtful driving etc in advance. Means that the 1-1 time you get goes further. Or book two days a month apart...
