We did St Michaels Mount in October. I say we "did" it, we walked over with hordes of other people, got there and it was heaving, checked out the cream teas (serve yourself on paper plates for a tenner) and turned around and walked back - massive disappointment for something we'd been looking forward to doing for a while. Went to Falmouth on the way home which was a very nice wander around town and some tea at a bar in the "new" bit near the museum (which is meant to be good - we didn't have time to go in / had the dog with us).
Not especially child (depending on age) friendly but always found wandering the back streets of St Ives interesting. Along the harbour front past the shops and then left and up the hill, through the little back streets to the Tate and then back down toward the harbour again. Some little gems of cafes and galleries to be had.
