I would love a 991 Dakar but don't have the funds or desire to spend £200k.

After seeing this: https://ramsport.com/product/porsche-996-gt3-rally...

Would it be possible to lift the ride height, gain more travel and fit braid wheels to a 996 GT3?

Not looking at doing any trackdays so happy to trade off lap times for something compliant on the road that doesn't flinch at every pot hole!

Would need to be reversible to preserve the value and market demand if / when it was sold.

Someone in our WhatsApp 996 GT3 group has done exactly that-he's moving to the Lake District and has had either Suspension Secrets or Centre Gravity raise and sort the suspension for more rural roads.

Thanks that sounds interesting! When you get a moment please could you see what it involves and how much extra ride height he gained? Cheers

I wonder for a rally spec car, a Carrera 4 would be a good starting point for a Dakar tribute 996. After all the Dakar is 'only' a GTS not a GT3. You could do Hartech conversion to bring power to GT levels and do all the suspension and cosmetic work and still spend less than a decent GT3 would cost

I got a bit carried a way with ChatGPT

That looks like it's got lowered suspension, not raised.

I’ve toying with the idea of a safari style 996 as I can’t afford a Dakar either.

Design 911 do this suspension kit to raise the car which may be the kind of thing you’re looking for.

It would be interesting to know the effect on geo after it’s fitted as a similar elephant racing kit is much more expensive but contains all sorts of adjustable suspension arms.

I would guess on a GT3 you already have these fitted.

These look well resolved, I had a look around one at the last scramble.

I have found my people. biggrin

Sometimes (particularly when driving over potholes) I wonder about giving my Turbo a few safari upgrades.

They can be done quite subtly without fully loaded roof racks!!

I reckon an extra inch or so with Braid wheels and slightly narrower Mud/Snow tyres (225/265) would be great cross country car. I would struggle to resist a lamp pod and rally mud flaps...
