The 112mph limited top speed on modern Volvo's always creates a bit of a debate on here for example, like on the recent EX60 article. So do you prefer a high top speed, or would you forgo that for acceleration, or do you prefer the best of both worlds and you enjoy both?

I personally like both. So what about you?

Years ago both.

Acceleration now (bikes and cars) - speeding is too risky now with dashcams and mobile cameras.
Nice to get a rush of acceleration then back off and do it all again!

I like blistering acceleration to get to a silly top speed, that's why I have 400 bhp in a car that weighs just over 1200 kg, I can get a low 4 sec to 60 mph and a 173 mph indicated on the digital Speedo down the M69, that will do me to be honest...

Handling.

As an aside, only a grade-A knobber would do 113mph or more on UK roads, so the Volvo thing isn't a thing.

Acceleration in the form of a big wodge or torque-derived thrust is always entertaining.

High top speed I don't really need or use. Even on the autobahn I doubt I crack more than 120 most of the time.

My Volvo has never been up to 112mph so I don’t see it as a problem. It has a nice bit of torque to get it up to a reasonable speed but I’m not going racing in it.

In the UK, acceleration and sharp throttle response.

Most most modern cars are so good speed only really becomes a number on a dial which isn't that appealing as the consequence is loosing your licence.

As I said in the other thread I'd rather have the top speed and not use it Vs not having it then needing it at some point.

Acceleration is good too though. I'd have both hence would never buy a new Volvo no matter how nice or quick it was.

Only a grade-A knobber would answer handling when the choices were acceleration or top speed.

I don't use a cars top speed, neither do I use the acceleration benchmark 0-60. However, rolling acceleration and punching out of corners is what I enjoy and use.

For me it's not about bouncing off the limiter (OK, maybe occasionaly smile), but there's something satisfying about effortlesly building speed.

Enjoy a trip over to the IOM where 120+ down A roads is no problem.
As a daily driver the limit wouldn’t bother me tbh acceleration is more used, not in a fun car though.

Acceleration all day long and twice on a Sunday. Top speed is increasingly pointless in the UK now.

Why choose? Most cars can do both (and handle well). But on top speed 155mph is plenty I think. I have a car that can do 190mph I think but I don’t think I’ve been above 140mph in it. I have had other derestricted cars that I maybe hit 160-170mph with on occasion. It’s nice that it’s there for the day that it’s needed. I don’t think it’s costing me anything to use it or not use it.

It's a combination of acceleration, handling (feel and not wallowy like a fat 4x4) and sound. Obviously, I would prefer a top speed that can be used on modern motorways.

After a few years in the wilderness with dull cars, I'll forgo a bit of comfort and have a bit of an experience.
