looks like one of the old jag v12's that were for military use. they were fitted to the scimitar/sabre IFVs before they were all fitted with diesel engines. there was a batch of Mil-spec V12s released for sale recently that were painted that colour.

sommat tells me that those ear-duffs aint much use with an un-manifolded v-12

I initially thought it was a Merlin of some description due to the size, but they don't usually have ancillaries on top of them. Some further googling leads me to think you are right:

There's something beautiful about V12 engines isn't there. My Dad is giving me his beloved classic V12 xjs shortly, which he's had since new. It had been sitting in the garage unused for three months and it started on the first turn this saturday. Apparently they can go to 250k miles without problems.

Traction might be an issue!

Been doing some further googling and found this page. A chap has made fully functional 1/5 scale models of a Merlin XX, and also an Eagle 22.

site said:
Type of engine: Geared, pressure liquid cooled, flat H, sleeve valve engine with two-speed, two-stage liquid cooled supercharger, driving contra-rotating propellers through reduction gearing.
Bore 5.4”
Stroke 5.125”
Swept volume 2,816 cu in (46 litres)
Compression ratio 6.5:1
Supercharger ratios 3.0:1 & 3.67:1
Reduction gear ratio 0.298:1
Maximum power 3,200 HP at 18 psi boost
Carburetor indirect fuel injection

For a 1/5th-size engine, this gave a total capacity of 22.53 cu in (370 cc).

H24 supercharged scooter anyone?
