Mrs BC and I have been in Japan and Tiawan recently. Obviously the languages were challenging. Has anyone here used translation buds?

I’m curious about how good they are and whether I’d get on with them.

Apple were showcasing this as part of their Airpod update but apparently it's not available over here.

You can show the person you're talking to your phone which will display your reply translated back in to their language. The advert looked great, but then most do I suppose.

If by "over here" you mean the UK then it is available. It is not available in the EU yet but that is down to the EU's DMA demanding interoperability which Apple says will compromise user data.

AirPods 4 or Pro 2 and above. iPhone 15 Pro and above. Translation app and Apple Intelligence required.

List of support countries/languages https://www.apple.com/uk/ios/feature-availability/...

I have seen a live demo it works pretty well.

I tried this in Tokyo last month and didn’t really like it, so quickly reverted to using the translate app on my phone to chat to people, which everyone in Tokyo seemed used to, and quite liked to do.

What translate are you using? This was my Google Translate effort at a supermarket in Lisbon. Hopefully it was wrong.

Nice, I didn't realise we could get it in the UK. Simply my phone (13) letting me down. I thought it was Europe it wasn't available in, not just the EU.

Hand the earbuds to the other person to use so they can then understand what you're saying.....
