I was travelling along a B road in north yorkshire today at 7.30am and was surprised how many Pheasants there were, they were in groups of 5 or 6 and seamed to be playing chicken with me.
One would stand in the road while the others would watch him leave it until the last second before he jumped out the way.
This happened every 500 yards so after the 3rd time i thought "sod um" i`m not slowing down.
I was doing 50 mph when a came round a curve and there in front of me was a Corsa stopped on his side of the road facing me.
The driver suddenly through something out the window, i thought it might be chewing gum but it was`nt.
It was a tit bit of food, and quick as a flash a Pheasant jumped out of the long grass on my side of the road, "O SHIT" i said.
BANG i hit the bugger , there was nothing else i could do, the Corsa narrowed road and so i could`nt brake, Honest.
It was funny, I could`nt help thinking what the people in the Corsa must have thought.

"Go on dad give that big bird a crisp"
"alright"
OH MY GOD (BANG).
Tears, then more tears.

"How to sneak around the poaching laws". It's not legal to pick up a pheasant you've hit yourself. It is legal to pick up one that someone else has hit.

Having not long got back fom a short break in North Yorkshire (I am a Yorkshire lad and return as often as I can) I can confirm that the A roads (and B if truth be told) are some of the best in the country.

Huge amounts OT potential and just very pleasant undulating roads with every concievable pleasue and annoyance you could hope for, I have always thought "this is Trev country"

Cheers

Paul

Edited to add - We have no started refering to Pheasants as "road kill" and "potential road kill" - they seem to have no idea, taste nice tho'

On the plus side there's no need to worry about lead shot

Apologies to pidge before I start.....

Heard a BOING the other day. Appeared to be my rear offside wing......

Thought some little scrote had thrown something....

Looked in the door mirror.....spotted a drunken pigeon attempting a deck landing in a big tree......

I do believe the blighter flew into my motor car.....

Early morning in the Transvaal the tortoise enjoy coming out the brush to sit on the warm wet tarmac. After a few stops to move them out of the way, then a few swerves to miss others without stopping, it gets frustrating so ... you bump along on your journey ...

More disturbing are the bullfrogs which head for the roads in the Eastern Cape when it rains. You can't avoid them - there are thousands of the buggers, and they are huge. They make a very unpleasant noise when you run over them and leave behind a disgusting mess!

I remember hitting a pheasant when I was learning to drive. Bloody thing leapt out of the bushes, bounced off the windscreen and flew away!
