Die Grinders and Carbide Burrs
Discussion
I’ve ordered a cordless die grinder with a 1/4 inch chuck. It’ll mainly be used for prepping for and dressing welds.
I’m now looking for some carbide burrs.
I’m now finding that a lot of burrs advertised as 1/4inch are actually 6mm.
As 1/4 inch is 6.35mm, do I need to worry about 6mm ones being loose in the chuck, or will it tighten up?
Pferd, Dormer and Bahco are obviously good brands, but are there any others worth considering?

This is a link to the product on the manufacturers website.
As you need the serial number to find out what parts are available for your machine, I'll have to wait for it to arrive to find out if they have a different sized collet available.

I haven't measured the collett in my Katsu die grinder, but it closes up enough to grip the burrs, there are four slits down the body of the collett to allow it. I find that if I'm grinding welds down, the vibration can cause the burr to come loose, so I have to watch for it appearing to lengthen and turn the thing off before it lets go. The big trouble with mine is that it's a toggle switch on the back of the unit rather than a drill-style switch that lets go, so it can be a bit scary trying to find it while anticipating the burr flying off somewhere. My issue might be down to wear - sometimes it's very noisy which may be a bearing on the way out.

Having had a 6mm router bit come out of a 1/4” collet many years ago, don’t assume it will be ok!I m now looking for some carbide burrs.

I didn’t know at the time that it was different, I was only just out of my apprenticeship and the company had supplied everything for me. I was routering some oak fire doors for intumescent strips.
Luckily it was the head of the door and I got away with the carnage. The router bit shot across the room I was in at some speed and clattered some skirting board.
