Quickie here.
I've had a few odd questions around my decision to park up my high days and holidays car in the garage over winter. I appreciate it's not typical for everyday cars to be garaged anymore, even where people have garages available, but didn't think we'd reached the point where keeping a new convertible inside over the winter is considered odd.
I'm close to 40 now and starting to feel the existential sense that I'm losing touch. So, echo chamber, am I wrong?

Unfortunately I have neither a garage or off street parking. After scraping the ice off today I remembered when I did have a double garage and what absolute luxury it was.
In cold weather the car would start a lot more easily and smoother, I didn't have to waste time clearing the ice and it would never steam up inside.
I never understand people who park their car on the drive and then fill the garage with junk.

My wife puts her car in the garage every day, electric door but she has to get out and open the gates. Has done for the last 20 years since having a garage. Sometimes it stays on the drive if im doing something in the garage for a while. Im not sure why people would think its odd .? Its safer , no ice/ snow/ condensation, cool in summer, no bird s
t and so on ..
t and so on ..I extended my garage a few years back, it's well insulated and has selectable heating.
If I parked an ice car wet, it would dry off within a day or so and the garage would keep the heat from it. If I done the same with the EV, with the lack of an engine radiating heat the car would stay wet for weeks.
Fun cars inside, daily EV outside.

3 motorbikes, all garaged , 3 cars - one garaged, one carport and one under one of those big temporary carports.
We have huge mature trees over our drive and unless it’s a dry winters day you can’t leave anything out for any time at all due to sap/leaves/bird crap/seed pods. It’s awful and makes a right old mess.
Even just getting my car into the garage in the few seconds it takes to open/close the garage door the sap is noticeable on the paint and glass and lately there’s been an odds on chance of it getting bit by a huge purple bird crap. We are moving this year and I won’t even contemplate trees near the drive.

Two hobby cars and a motorbike in the garage all year around, modern crossover outside on the drive. Leaving cars outside in all weather 24/7 with rain running through the drain channels and into the sills etc will cause rot very quickly in our climate, not to mention damage to paint that cane be caused by bird poop and ultra violet from the sun. Garaging a vehicle in a dry ventilated garage is one of the best ways to preserve it, provided that you follow a few rules, i.e make sure it's absolutely dry before putting it away and that the discs are clean. I wouldn't even consider running a decent car if I didn't have off street parking, probably would just run a banger.
My mid-life crisis TVR, is garaged, our two daily drivers are parked on the drive. Like a previous poster, I never understand why people have a garage and use it to store crap. We have a family near here who have a garage full of crap, an oversized caravan parked on their drive (and over the footpath in front), a large car parked partly on the footpath outside their house and currently, a small car parked on the driveway of the house for sale next door. I don’t know what they will do when their kids start driving!

My 2010 SLK350 kept in the garage between October and March, with a Dehumidifier running on a schedule daily, connected to my phone so I can constantly monitor levels....yes I'm sad!
..But I've had this car 4 years, and for the past 2 of those it's taken me to The South Of France with the roof down all the way, it has great sentimental value now, and being a V6 with a heavenly exhaust note, it's a dying breed....It may not be worth loads of money now, but to me its priceless and I want to keep it in the best condition I can for as long as possible - Especially as Mercs from that era rust for fun!
My daily is just parked up on the road outside
