I purchased a brand new Jaecoo 7 on September 12, 2025.

Upon collection, the key fob didn’t work, they implied put a new battery in it when you get home , seriously, but the dealer fixed it. Unfortunately, it stopped working again as soon as I got home. Additionally, the steering wheel is out of alignment, and they informed me that a specialist needs to address this issue. The DAB radio has also failed, which is quite disappointing.

The automatic doors lock and unlock on their own when I’m miles away from the car. The automatic boot hardly functions, and there are random warning lights that keep appearing on the dashboard.

Today, I encountered another problem: two red lights illuminated, and the doors locked, with three handles stuck and one handle outside. This situation made it impossible to unlock or operate the doors, and I couldn’t even take the charger out of the car.

I am currently waiting for the RAC to come and take the car back to the garage. This has been the worst car I have ever owned. The dealer refused to accept our rejection letter. In fact, they didn’t even find a reason to take it in the first time until I showed them videos and pictures, yet they still rejected my request.

At least it's new enough that you can reject it.

Not wishing to be part of a pile-on, but that is entirely as I would expect the ownership of a Jaecoo to be.

But, you are where you are. It is four months old so I suspect if the dealer is being awkward (as I would also expect), then it is going to be a bit of a battle for rejection.

It seems it is a new fault - so didn't exist at the time of purchase.
I guess you have to let them fix it, then push for rejection when it breaks again.

They won't easily roll over. You have to return it/stop driving it and it then gets in to a bit of a stalemate. Which is fine if you have infinite cash and other cars to use... but most of the time that isn't the case.

Any finance or credit card payments for it?
If so, they will help.

You are annoyed with it - it won't get any better.

Not entirely true, as you could pay 6 times as much for a Range Rover and still have similar issues... wink

You buy cheap Chinese and wonder why it is sh*te?

Sorry to be blunt and another piling on, but it is the case.

What I think will emerge more as an issue is parts and warranty with these companies. While they are large, if any choose to exit the UK market, I think they will pull parts and warranty supply completely. They have no morals, neither do the Chines government. Long term ownership is a huge gamble.

To be fair they're around £30,000 new which is a lot of money to me, and regardless of the price its reasonable to expect a car to work as intended.

If I was in your position OP I'd clearly set out the problems with it to the Dealer Principal and say how I want it resolved. They should offer to attempt repairs in the first instance, and if unsuccessful I would move to rejection. With luck it could just be one relatively simple fault such as a defective 12v battery which is causing the other issues.

If you are a member of AA or RAC you could speak to their legal dept.

Yeh but apart from that it’s fine…seriously that’s a poor situation to be in ,I suppose the price paid is maybe coming back to bite regards dealer investment in customer service ,frustrating none the less.

There’s a YouTuber “Geoff buys cars” who follows Jaecoo closely. It won’t be of much help to you but rest assured you are not alone.

Is this the same vehicle that Mat Watson / Car Wow reviewed recent and even the press car had poorly colour matched body panels?

I've always assumed it would be as horrific in terms of build/reliability as it looks.

If it's on any sort of finance then involve the finance company.

I was thinking the same, I guess your car's been sat around unused for a while before delivery, a sub-par 12V battery can generate a constellation of faults in a modern car. I'd start by getting the battery tested and if necessary replaced, and see if that makes it behave.

I'm not really adding anything new but it's always been the case that you get what you pay for

Whilst at a distance and perhaps even on paper cheap cars look very similar to more expensive cars (same size, features, looks etc.) those cost savings have to come from somewhere, whether that's quality of materials, finish, reduced testing, R&D etc.

It's not just a case of the premium brands charging more for an identical product because they can
