Hi All,

Does anyone know of a good solution for improving the appearance of the front number plate on an F355?

The standard option doesn't seem to really follow the front shape of the car and looks a bit wrong to my eye.

I'm not sure about a sticker, as I suspect it might not pass an MOT - I also worry it would take half the paint off come time of removal.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Many thanks

I had no problems with MOTs with a vinyl plate. I never tried to remove it though

Thanks Dave - I do think a stick on vinyl number plate looks probably looks best. From what I can tell, as long as it's reflective vinyl and correctly spaced, it's legal..... Maybe if I stick a layer of PPF behind it, that would protect the paint following later removal.

I have found these guys for small, legal number plates, but not sure about fitting:

Also, these people seem to have a good solution for fitting. Looks like some kind of quick release clamp. Handy if you want to take it off, and reattach for MOT, although I can't see one for an F355:

I persisted with a standard plate for ages and eventually gave in and put a sticker plate on. I take the old plate to MoTs just in case they are funny about sticker plates.

I had my 355 for 15 years with a stick-on front plate and it was never mentioned during the mot process or by the main Ferrari dealer who organised the test.
Also had no problems with police patrols.

Pictures I've seen the number plate on the lower bumper looks ok, what's the problem? UK plate too big? You might get away with using a plate that adheres to the import plate regs, that is if the bumper can't accommodate a full plate you can use a smaller plate and lettering (50mm? same as motorbike) and still be BS marked.

My plate is mounted on a mounting bracket which I ssumed was standard, but evidently not.

Excuse the crappy pic:

Just checked measurements and the plate(a standard seven character affair) measures 80mm×420mm with a character height of 62mm. So its subtly smaller than normal and despite the character height has never ever been flagged in an MOT. It came with the car and I was assured was legal.

I have been using a vinyl sick on for over 20 years. Fits the contour of the lower bumper. Never had a problem.
