Hi,

If anyone can help I would appreciate it.
I was traveling back from Cumbria from a funeral to Norfolk today, and on the M62 eastbound somewhere between Manchester and Wakefield area there was a reduce limit 50 on the overhead gantry - it looks like there was some cones on the hard shoulder. I past a least another 8 over gantries with the ability to show the limit but non where on. I *thought* that the speed restriction was over , however after some time I passed another over head just after a slip road in that showed the derestriction signs.

There was a camera not long before there which I travel pasted at around 60mph. I suspect I am going to get a ticket, which is extremely frustrating as I genuinely thought the limit was 70mph.

I don't know this area at all. However my only really experience I have of overhead gantries is the M25 where if there is a speed restriction it shows it on each gantry up to derestriction.

Anyone know this bit of road?

Did the gantry where the camera was show the lowered limit? If not there won't be any enforcement as there is no evidence.

Are you new around here? biggrin

OP has clearly missed all previous posts on this subject. To summarise for OP.
A reduced limit is in force until another limit (or NSL or 'END' ) replaces it,
So .... if the gantry signs are blank, the previous limit is in force...
BUT, without an image of the speed limit the camera cannot show any verification of the lower limit being in place.

I’ve asked this before but is there any reason why a temp speed limit can’t be repeated on every 3rd or 4th gantry? I can’t imagine it costs a huge amount and at least it would help those who try to comply with the speed limits.

I drive the M62 and M6 regularly and the continuously changing VSLs are an absolute pain in the neck to try and keep a track of.

But that would involve someone in the higjways control team to actually apply some common sense.

And I think this would ask more than they could give.

In my experience, red X signs are mostly accurate (I always follow them of course) but the random warning signs and limits really do make me wonder.

Anyway, the OP will be happy to know that enforcement of vsl has been paused, so it's a moot point if the stretch was restricted or not.

Ha ha, yes I don’t normally look in this sub forum as there’s not many cameras my way.
Thanks for the replies - looks like it will hopefully not receive a NIP. I don’t know how it works with VSL hence my post. Thanks

Good point.

I'm sure they'll be a post on here about 10 minutes after the first envelope lands though

@bosshogg Can't you just accidentally wipe the hard drive when you get back to work on Monday?

Is it the bit around Rochdale at the bottom of windy hill?
The 50 signs are up as they are doing work in centre barrier area to replace bridge supports, so the lanes are narrower.

I don't think any cameras are active as not everyone seems to slow down there.
I sail through at 55 but that doesn't activate a 50 camera anyway.

If they are as good at changing the speed limits or opening up lanes on the overhead signs then we could be waitling a while!

On one part of the M62 at the M621 junction there is a lane closed off with the red X on a regular basis for no apparent reason.
