Morning chaps,

I'm usually on the Mini forums here as that's my toy, but an opportunity came that I couldn't pass up.

I bought this C250 CGi AMG Sport from a customer that did not want to spend out on any further diagnosis or have the money to carry out the repair. It had low compression on cylinder 4, which turned out to be a burnt out exhaust valve.

He had spent out a fair bit on it during the year so far, had a headlamp replaced, a minor knock on the front wing sorted, and had all the wheels refurbished, and had just fallen out of love with it. After deciding he could get away with just one car in the household, he was going to take it to We Buy Any Car, who had offered him just over a grand as a non runner, I offered him a £1000 which he accepted.

I have replaced the valves, done a timing chain & guides, a set of coil packs due to odd random misfires across all cylinders, and all is good. The car has full MB history, serviced every 5000 miles - the cam pulleys have zero wear unlike 271 evo engines that stick to the ridiculous service schedules, it has 70k on it and apart from the odd stone chip and a scuff on the drivers side skirt, is pretty mint. It also had a service & MoT left on the service plan.

Also got hold of a set of genuine C63 19"s which came from another customer that no longer had the car.

I daily a Pug 3008 so the Merc will be a weekend car, until I decide whether to move it on.

What do you suspect caused the burnt valve?

Well it was more a piece missing from the face, but no sign of it in the cylinder so im guessing it went out the exhaust. There was no damage to the valve seat either so i think it may have been a weakness that just failed, which would coincide with the customer saying it had been running fine then instantly started misfiring when he got home, and thats when the EML came on.

What a bargain now it's sorted! Great to see stuff like this being saved. Bet you're rather smug smoking round in it!

Can't fault my 180 s204. Bit boring but it's incredibly well built, comfy, still looks decent and does the daily thing without fuss. 3 faultless years with it now. Only thing I'd change it for would be a V6 e class of the same era.

The facelift is definitely my favourite, and being a 2013 its one of the last. Probably the last good quality product Merc did, the 205 wasn't as solid and I don't like the melted blob styling of the new cars.

The 204 only really suffers with Mercs current problem of rusty rear subframes ( which are covered under warranty ) and brake pipes, you can pretty much guarantee everything on a 205 will break at some point

Yes it is, and has cost me only £400 to fix and some spare time.

It certainly feels good after costing so little compared to what they are selling for. Ill do a few little tasteful reversible mods to make it my own.

They are a decent car, especially if you have a higher spec one. Mercs always give me a bad back but this has the sports seats with lumbar support and so far I am back pain free. Only things it doesn't have is Comand, which is fine as I want to put an Apple Car Play screen in, and fully electric seats, and I hate having to wait for the seat to move back and forth, i just want to pull a lever and move it!

I miss my s204, super comfy daily. The steering column module went so a breaker/mechanic guy gave me 500 quid and took it away.

PS might be interested of you do sell.

Yep, some people deride them for cheap interiors, but i always found mine to be well put together and a lovely place to be for hours at a time.
Still regret selling it.

That's interesting - I never had a problem with car seats but had a brand-new S203 as a corporate loaner for a couple of days and that gave me back-ache after a couple of hours. I dismissed it as just one of things and bought one and it was just the same - I ended up driving around with a hand-towel folding into a pad at the base of my back.

Definitely better with lumbar support, otherwise as you say, after a couple hours you feel it.

The 204 interiors are decent quality i think, the 205 and now the 206 are certainly a cost cutting exercise, we are always replacing parts, window switches fall apart, seat covers wear, centre console parts break, and everything feels cheaper to the touch
