Looks like I’m starting the thread this yr.
I’ve got money on the Welsh girl Fiona as the red’un.

It was quite funny how pissed off the traitors were about the unwanted 'middle management'

rofl

It will be interesting how that plays out - I assume they wouldn't be able to 'recruit' a replacement red if they were tagged early - but the gang of 3 might out themselves in glee!

Too complicated for me now.
It was bad enough before, but adding in a red and a mum/daughter makes it mind blowing.

I'm sure it will settle, but this opening episode was rather too frenetic. Surprised they've put another parent/child in so soon.

Shouting “stop mum” must have raised some suspicions?

Ex rozza would be a good red and the editing has suggested it a bit but it's v early.
Other thoughts -

Doubt the producers will have known about the two who knew vaguely knew eachother.

Great to have someone with a stammer on.

Jade does look kinda guilty.

It's annoying they have a mother/offspring in again.

The secret traitor seems like an unnecessary complication, and hampers the other traitors no end, for no (yet) obvious benefit to anyone.

We thought the same.

I presume the producers must have tested the concept to see how it might work, but initial thoughts are, why complicate things further?

And if you were a traitor, how infuriating!

Well we’re talking about it so the producers will take that as a win, the whole concept is around paranoia and distrust so why be surprised when an “supposed” element of chaos is added.

I quite like the secret traitor twist, one person alone knows all the identities of everyone, that'll make the paranoia even stronger!!

Glad I wasn't the only one who caught that!

Well that’s the crucial element isn’t it? It’s the device that finally brings the viewers into the game. It’s been one of the main feedback angles.

I am being fick because I don't see how that aspect works, I'll confess. Can someone explain to the dim how it involves me?

As a viewer you know who the Traitors are therefore all the others default to faithful except of course there’s that new element that keeps us all guessing unless like me you belief the secret traitor is Judy……

The Secret Traitor is a much better "twist" than "The Seer" in S3 which backfired immediately. It also allows those who think it is easy to spot a Traitor the chance to play along.

My guess at who may be the Secret Traitor is Jade. She did seem to react after the masks were taken off yet she hadn't been chosen...

...or had she?

I also liked the Gary Delaney esque joke where one of the ladies when asked what she’d do with the prize money said she’d take her mother, who has dementia, on holidays to make memories……..classy

I thought the same, but as Richard Osman points out in The Rest is Entertainment podcast, the draw of the show is the fact the audience is in in everything. So we get to roll out eyes as the faithful get it wrong etc, but now we're also a little in the dark. He thinks it'll be done with by about 5 eps in as you'll be able to work out who it is (if they vary who they out up for murder), I think it's a clever twist that allows another element for however long it goes on.

I wouldn't be surprised if there's another twist later in with it to keep it interesting. Good bunch it seems this year, my money's on Ben as the red cloak. He was looking shifty after the first round table and we've not really seen him in VTs in between.
