Got double flashed on the m4 yesterday evening at a sat nav indicated 77. Might I get a letter for under 10%+2 and be famous for ever?

I doubt that, if your speed was as typed. Please do post a picture of the letter up here if so, in order that your ascension to PH deity can be proven…

The problem is that many fools think they are actually wise.

Indeed.

Although the 85th percentile on Motorways is around 80mph, as per DfT traffic data, which taken with them being the safest roads, suggests that exceeding the 70mph limit is perfectly wise where conditions allow.

You do know that he lost both legs in a completely avoidable and unnecessary crash which would not have happened if he had even paid the barest attention to "the rules" ....

People don’t know if they’re a fool or wise. Rules are there to protect people from themselves and others who have an inflated opinion of their ability.

It is striking to me that when this type of query is posted ( not a rare occurrence), there will inevitably someone to criticize the poster for speeding and say it is well deserved. Luckily the majority of people just respond neutrally and helpfully to the query.
