If it wasn't for the kids excitement then I wouldn't be bothered either way to be honest.
My 2 least favourite days of the year are untangling tree lights getting them out of the box and putting them away again without tangling them. 8,000 of the f
kers on trees around the house this year.
I enjoy the day but I'm bored of it by Boxing Day. Then I begin to look forward to going back to work.

Used to enjoy it.
Now both parents aren’t around and my late mums birthday was Xmas day I bloody hate it. I wake up flat and don’t feel like celebrating, so I always say to my children to have Xmas day at their mums where there still an extended family on that side and they’ll have a better time. The whole build up just does my head in where you’re just expected to be joyous.
I’ve had loads of well meaning invites but I’m having my first ever Xmas day on my own tomorrow and can’t wait. Hoping to do some volunteering but I can’t believe how difficult it’s been to find somewhere reasonably local.
My Xmas starts Boxing Day,kids coming over with their other halves and a nice walk to the pub for dinner.
I’ll prob’ get the magic back if grand kids come along.

It's all so over the top now. The kids have been emotional wrecks for a week already.
My threshold for smiling and making small talk is also way lower than what's expected of me so I really don't look forward to that bit of it.
Best bit will be this evening when the kids are asleep and I can have a nice whiskey as no work tomorrow.

My next door chavvy neighbour puts flashing Christmas lights on the outside of the house.
Day before yesterday his family had an argument that was so loud and aggressive that people came out of their houses and debated whether or not to call the Police. The argument was that his two teenage children said that they didn't want to spend Christmas there and were going to their friends on Christmas Day, I don't blame them.
He took all the lights down from the house yesterday, shouting that he was fed up of Christmas already, (he put a doing word in front of the word Christmas, which I am not sure is what Jesus would have wanted)
This morning, the idiot, has put all the lights back up.

I live alone and can't be bothered, yet I still do other. I've got a tree with lights and this year I've done a single row of outdoor lights too.
After major surgery in the spring I vowed not to bother this year. But, I still have.
I usually manage to bag two weeks off work and have done so again.
I go and see my dad on Christmas Day my mum died some years back) and we cook a meal. He's perfectly healthy but when the time comes and he's not there, maybe that really will be then end of it for me. I have a brother but he is with wife and small child and they rightly do their own thing.
In short I wouldn't say I enjoy it but I don't hate it either. It makes many people happy and thus I'm happy to go with the flow. I don't want to become a grumpy old fart as I get older. If I had kids I would go the whole hog on it.

My wife sent me to B&M the other week to get a few last bits.
Selection boxes for all nieces and nephews etc. I went at 8.30am to avoid traffic and as many mouth breathers and s
t
s as possible...
There was only a few people in the shop but I got all agitated and clammy. Aisles and aisles and aisles of s
te. Cheap plastic chinese tat from floor to ceiling everywhere. My wife phoned me a few times to make sure I didnt forget X, Y or "Whilst you're there, can you get Z". By the time I'd got to the till I was ready to raze the place to the ground and go on murderous rampage.
There were two full aisles dedicated to christmas chocolate and sweets and it took me forever to actually find enough normal cadburys selection boxes that weren't ripped open, they were dotted all over the store. Christmas music blaring out, all the musical toys going off, flashing lights... f
k me dead.
I cannot for a second understand how anyone enjoys christmas shopping, thousands of people just aimlessly wandering about spending a fortune buying s
t.
I like a relatively low key christmas. Tree put up a week or so before christmas, a few lights/decorations, family, decent roast, drink, carefully considered gifts, all purchased well in advance that are actually wanted/requested.
My wife, on the other hand, loves it all...

It's what you make it and I make it work for me.
I can avoid the unsavoury elements sufficiently to make it enjoyable and relaxing, by unsavoury I mean the commercialised aspect, endless Christmas songs that give me a head ache and any other tacky parts too. Plus crowded shops packed with people.
Luckily I dont live on a street with people draping their house and garden with tacky eye sore lights either.

Growing up (seventies) Christmas was about a few carols at school, snow (every year) and seeing the Salvation Army band on the street. I grew out of that in tandem with how commercial and hyped it was becoming.
Having kids pushed me back into the circus when they were primary school aged.
When I was in and out of crash repair centres cutting out glass the radio would be on repeating the usual chrimbo songs. This is the first year I've reached the 24th without that torture. The only song I heard was when I borrowed the wife's car and '2000 Miles' by The Pretenders was on. Just about my limit these days.
A bit strong to say I hate it, but like a bout of diarrhoea, I can't wait for it to pass.

We haven't even put the tree up yet. Christmas seems to have moved into advent and Christmastide is filled with nothing. It's a shame. Even 20 years ago there would be parties during Christmas.
Being hammered with the commercialisation of Christmas puts me off but I rarely see adverts anyway.

He has nine children, seven have moved away and never visit, remaining two 17/18, have left for Christmas.

Fa La La La, La La La, La.As a kid, I used to love it. But as I have got older I just can't be arsed with it..
Just about every company on the planet showering us with adverts of what they think a perfect Christmas is, what if that is not it is to every one, or what if they want that but can't have it? We have all become so worried about offending people with every thought these days, until it comes to Christmas and then anyone that does not follow the prescribed formula can go to hell apparently.
All the commercialisation of it, wife that doesn't really get on with my family and I just can't be doing with it anymore.
