Has anyone here done this?

I gather I can just request a copy of my prescription from my ophthalmologist and then use that to order glasses from abroad at a significant saving over UK prices.

Are there any cons to this process?

When I look online there are a multitude of sites offering the service: can anyone recommend any to use/avoid?

Thanks.

Another vote for Glasses Direct although my wife has had some very good deals from Asda Opticians.

When you get your prescription to upload to a mail order site you'll need to work out your PD as it's rare for opticians to record this as it is not a mandatory prescription requirement. Many online sites can use your camera to give you your PD.

I’ve been using them for about 6 years, their varifocal lenses aren’t great at the cheap end but the top ones are on par with high street mid range.

There's a pair of Ray-Ban's I like but I have varifocals so never used mail order. I would save fortune though.

Sitting here in a pair from Singapore. Titanium, premium varifocal coated lenses and 3 different shades of magnetic clip on sunglasses, including polarising lenses. Not far into 3 figures and were with me within a week smile

Well a link link would be useful for the OP.

I did have a problem, the glasses centre of focus (or whatever it's called) didn't match my eyes. They went back without argument but I ended up back at the opticians for a set that worked without me going all Marty Feldman!
It will depend on your persciption and physiology of course.
