Lease company dropped off my first EV on Friday,

Had a grand total of 92 miles on it when I got it, easily the newest car I've ever had.

Have covered 100 miles or so in it so far, including multiple runs to the tip lol, so far my first impressions are generally positive, though it has the usual host of pointless warnings that I need to try and find a way to disable.

Congratulations on your new car and first EV.

They take a while to get used to and you do have to rewire your brain but once you have adjusted you should love it.

Best thing to do is ask questions if you get stuck!

Unfortunately, that would be true of any modern car, not just EVs.

Glad you like it. I'll be honest I didn't bond with mine initially and had serious buyers remorse, but once I got the hang of one peddle driving, changing my mindset on charging and realising I don't have to go to petrol stations anymore it's very unlikely I'll ever return to ICE for a day to day car.

Agreed, that's progress

If you have a personalised key it may be worth spending some time seeing if you can get it to remember your preferences. Not sure if it's a UK requirement to turn them on at every start, but in the US you can turn them off and the key remembers your settings.

From sometime in 2024 they have to default to on with every start. This is a 2025 car so will be like that.

I have had some success on the pointless bonging front.

There's a function the car has where it can remember the settings for all the pointless crap and with one swipe and a button press I can activate that profile each time I get in the car.
I have also managed to mute the annoying "speed limit announcer" by turning down the "voice" volume setting.

My journey home from work today was 100% more pleasant as a result!

I wish they'd back-port that to the MG4! Or even better just include the assist settings I'm the custom drive mode.

I’ve got one of these cars and have done around 5k miles in it now.

You can turn off the speed limit announcements in the satnav settings.

It is. Haven’t had to experience it first hand yet (current car is 2022, so can permanently switch off) but it is what it is over here.

I couldn't find a "settings" within Sat Nav, but the "voice" volume setting has achieved the same thing and I don't seem to miss anything by having that set to zero

My brain now filters out modern car bongs. I moved my sons older car the other night and he was complaining I left the lights on 'didn't you hear it beep' no, no I didn't. It's just become background noise, like the mrs

Open sat nav > “hamburger menu” (3 lines bottom left) > settings > warnings > warn when speeding to off

Was going to say same thing - daughter has a new Kona EV which lost points in some road tests when it first came out as the bongs were so annoying. I asked her about them and she said she doesn't notice them. I drove it a bit recently and it is a bit mad, there doesn't seem to be any hierachy to the warnings so you end up just ignoring them all.

Not sure why the question marks, the car was dropped off on Friday, on Saturday morning I folded the seats down, lined the boot with a couple of old sheets and filled it, firstly with disassembled kitchen units and then the rest of the runs with rubble and old tiles from the kitchen and bathroom walls.

I've done a couple more since my first post and will be doing at least another couple tomorrow too, though the car now has 350 miles on it.

It's the most suitable car in my ownership for these tasks, so that's what it's used for.

The joy of an EV, assuming you can charge at home, is that it is immediately the lowest cost vehicle for any running about.

Now just about to click over to 3,000 miles, the MG has been faultless in my custody so far.
It's done a couple of dozen tip runs, multiple trips to the builders merchants for materials, I think the rear seats have been upright no more than twice since I got it and the rear parcel shelf is permanently in my garage lol. It's taken over workhorse duties from my old Cayenne easily enough.

Charging is still a pain when on longer journeys (in fact I took my Mini to Heathrow last month rather than mess about with the EV) but for the daily commute and anything that requires a larger size (3.6m timbers last weekend!!) the MG is proving surprisingly adept.

I can't speak to most of the systems as I have everything turned off and prefer to drive in silence, I have used the inbuilt sat-nav a couple of times and it's crap compared to my Garmin but most of them are! The bongs remain silenced, though the emotional warning that it can't see my face if I'm holding the top of the wheel is always good for a chuckle.

In short I'm pretty happy with the decision, would I spend my own money on one - not a chance, but as a cheap white-good runabout for 2 years it's good enough.
