I'm potentially looking at a 2011 TXS 2.2 manual with 120k on the clock from a main dealer. Seems well looked after, not too many owners, however the price is rather high at a smidge over £5,000 (they will do a full service & cambelt and water pump change). I do really want one of these cars (the 2.0 or 2.2), however I'm hung up on the price. I guess I'm looking for some sort of sanity check.. Am I mad to consider it at this price? The non sport TX seem to go for significantly less, but the draw is definitely the styling of the TXS.

The reason I'm considering it over cheaper alternatives is that it's from a main dealer rather than some sort of appointment only backstreet garage...

Does that not feel about £2k too expensive. Also at 15 years old (in a week or so) and over 100k any warranty is surely going to be erring on excluding pretty much everything on wear and tear.

Assuming it is a hatch rather than an estate that price would make it the most expensive on AutoTrader (if it was on AutoTrader, which I guess it isnt as I can't find a 2.2TXS matching your description).

Just for context I bought my normal Tit-X 2.0TDCi estate in May 2021 for £4.5k with 109K on it at the time. Mine has what I think is known as the X-Pack which means it came with Winchester pleather and the SatNav & camera (you may or may not want that anyway in lieu of the Sony stereo), privacy glass and bigger wheels that look like a TXS.

They are good cars (albeit very big). That said, I think over £5k for a 2011 leggy euro 5 diesel Mondeo sounds a lot. I don't know how much stronger the 2.2 is over the 163BHP I have so can't comment on that aspect.

Thanks guys. You're right, it's not on AT. I've managed to get my head to rule over my heart and told them no, it's too much for what it is. I'll get one eventually, but realistically a car that age just seems unwise to spend £5k on. If it was a grand less I'd go for it.

I think that you could have an open conversation with the dealer - is it Ford? If they took it in as a part-ex on a new car they will have a figure that they are owed on it - I suspect a lot less than £4000. Just offer what you think it is worth and keep hassling them, they may just do a deal to get it out the door.

It looks to be worth £3850 retail so I suspect £3000 as a trade in.

That one is absurd money. Nearly £4k for a pre face-lift,2.0 petrol auto with 6 owners. That is worth SOTW money IMHO.

I bought a 2.0 diesel 54 plate 64k Mondeo during Covid for less than that.

That is way overpriced.

54 plate? That's a lot older. Unless you mean 64. The TXS holds value more than the others. But I do agree it's overpriced.

They weren't budging on the price. Also, that's a PFL. It was the same shape as this
