Hi all
I'm in there north west, FY6. I'm going to take an internal load bearing wall out to open up a pair of rooms.
I need a structural calculation/survey doing to establish the steel size, pad stones, pillers etc for the span.

But how do you choose one? My friends don't have any recommendations, they all seem to quote the same qualifications etc.
I'm assuming a site visit will be required so do i need a local one, or is this something that can be done remotely?

Thanks

Some steel suppliers can do it for you if it’s not complicated.

Have a look online and you should be able to find a few local to you. If they have a website, have a look at some recent case studies and you will get a feel if they do residential works, or a re a larger commercial outfit.

Recently had similar work done and although they weren't local to me (or not local to you), i highly recommend https://www.cwtpartnership.co.uk.

Sent them existing and proposed drawings and they done the rest.

I've used Bruce Scott (Blackpool based) a couple of times, very reasonable and easy to deal with.

I've worked with Michael on a few occassions - he's a very talented and pragmatic engineer, proper old school who brings a practical bent to his work.

Thirded. Only used him for a structural survey on a house but a really lovely guy, no nonsense/upsell etc. I'd not hesitate to use him again.

Make sure you employ someone competent, and with sufficient PI Insurance.
