I have an old but much loved Mercedes C Class (2016) which has a screen and phone integration, but no Apple Carplay. I've heard that you can buy kits that can be fitted to adapt it to give CarPlay functionality, but I'm guessing like most things, there are good ones and less than good ones.

Any suggestions for the best make or type to go for?

Many thanks in advance beer

Hiya,

I did a bit of searching around for this when I recently retro installed CarPlay to my 2014 F10.

In the end I went for these guys.

https://integratedautomotive.co.uk/

On account of the R&D/DAC aspect of things. It was quite spenny though and tbh I’m not sure how much different it would be over a temu effort.

One thing I will say though is that it performs flawlessly and is fully integrated working with all the other car functions, voice control, steering wheel controls, reverse camera etc.

I fitted it myself and it was fairly easy, albeit a bit stressful because I’d taken my car dashboard to bits smile

Have you checked if it can be done via an ‘official’ upgrade? It will depend on the comand NTG version you have.

I did this on my 2014 CLS… £260 at a main dealer a few years ago.

Took a bit of digging about, even the dealer didn’t know they could do it until I showed them the product pdf online from Mercedes.

I used Mr 12volt in my 2011 to integrate with the AMI in my S4, but I have also recently picked up one of those dash top things to use in a Grand Picasso, cost £20 and tbh is bloody good!

That's interesting, I didn't know that this was a thing. Where did you look to find this - would be an excellent solution.

Sounds good, but I'm very keen to keep the car as original as possible, so I like the idea of it being completely integrated and using the current screen.

I think I saved the page as a favourite on an old laptop! I'll have a look and see if I saved a link.

It was on the Mercedes accessories website and I put my car reg in, or I found the accessory and it said my car was suitable.

No worries, they are very helpful guys if you give them a call and ask for advice/compatibility etc.

I recommend, but as said, a bit spenny. Figured it will eventually filter into the resale value tho..

OP - I’m not familiar with the W205, but there are very easy CarPlay options for the W204; I’ve a 2012 which has the “audio 20” system and has a socket in tte glovebox for a little Becker Navpilot box that gives the car nav. This is the easiest - you buy a little box which looks like the Becker box, plug it in and off you go - CarPlay/Android auto.

Next option is a bit more involved but still diy and is a box wired in and that’s for those with COMAND.

Does the nav pilot option exist in the 2015 car?

Mr12volt, especially if you have upgraded audio as some of them will support MOST rather than piggybacking aux.

It means that the HU does the digital to analogue conversion rather than relying on the poor DAC within the CarPlay unit.
