Hi,

I have a relatively small collection of cars, mainly naturally aspirated limited editions... 458 Specialie, 911 S/T, etc

I'm looking to add a new car now, and considering buying a limited or somewhat rare Lamborghini. I want to drive the car 2-3 times a week (I live in a hot climate), so I would prefer to get something that is reliable.

I've narrowed it down so far to:

STO Pros (for me)
- The STO is an easier choice as it is easier to daily (or at least drive 3-4 days a week)
- I’ve had a Huracan EVO 640-4 before and really enjoyed that v10 engine.

STO Cons (for me)
- I’m not really a wing guy
- In 4 weeks time will I wish I went for an SVJ or SV?

SV / SVJ Pros
- Limited car (relatively safe buy)
- I’ve never owned a V12
- Very little cars sound as good as an SV or SVJ

SV / SVJ Cons
- Very big
- Not something I will realistically daily and i’m sure I will likely drive an SUV more
- How reliable would an SV be?

The SV and SVJ is considerably more money, but on reflection it might be a better place to put money, as surely these can only continue to go in one direction?

What are your opinions on the SV and SVJ market… where are these likely to end up. Is the SV more desirable, or is the SVJ the one to have?

Thank you in advance for your help.

If you’ve had a Huracan before, don’t get another.

Try the others and buy the one that makes you smile the most.

I love my SV.

Reliability is largely luck on these types of cars.
I’ve been very lucky so far with the SV.

Wouldn’t use it to commute.

Thank you both.

@Ferruccio - have you driven an SVJ... interested to hear how it feels against the SV

I haven't driven either of them yet, but plan to this week.

I would definitely go V12, especially if you have not had one before.
On SV vs SVJ - I am not sure, I prefer the look of the SV and I think it is rarer (?). The performance difference probably won't matter in the future. Then again a 599 GTO still trades below a TDF, so not sure if rarity is the main factor either ....

No.

Talk to Craig at Pangbourne. He’ll give you a sensible view.

An early Diablo, mine is 1992, is a much more delicate thing.
From a different era.

I once spoke to a mechanic who was taking care of my Challenge car about Diablos as there was one parked up there. He said that particular car has never worked properly / always back in the shop in short order after leaving and a huge bill again. They look very cool, but that statement stayed with me and always worries me when I think about them as a car to drive regularly. I suspect on cars from that era it is a bit of a roll of the dice if your car is decent or a lot of trouble. My 355 also needed a lot of work to make it reliable and be able to daily drive it. Once I got it to that stage it was fine, but you always had that niggle in the back of your head that it might go wrong next time you take it out.

I doubt very MUCH that you will be allowed to test drive either of these cars unless you are committed to a deal and have proof of funds. I talk from experience. The SVJ is the one to have if you can afford it. Amazing drivers cars and the only way is UP!

Having owned an SV, SVJ and a few Huracan Performantes (not STO but similar enough and having driven a few the general feeling was the same) my opinion is the following;

Dailying either of the V12’s will get tiresome, literally and figuratively- it is a big car and imo feels it, driving that for an hour really takes it out of you, it’s equally heavy on Petrol consumption and filling it up is a pain to get a full tank due to how the tanks balance from memory.

The V12s are however an event to drive, as an occasional use car they are mega.

The STO is a super fun car to drive, probably would be my go to out of the three and dailying it, like the performante I can’t see any issues with other than the luggage issue, or rather lack of.

Regarding values, the SV seems to have softened along with the STO, I still don’t think they’ve found their bottom yet whereas imo the SVJ as the last special V12 (ultimae) also fits in here) will probably still stay strong.

I know it’s difficult but you really need to go on an extended test drive to get the real feel for both the v10 and v12.

Good luck and happy hunting!

I've had an SVJ and a 'regular' Huracan Evo. Can't comment on the STO specifically. The Huracan I never got on with, something about it just murdered my admittedly squiffy back. I swapped it for a 720S before getting an SVJ.

The SVJ I put ~9k miles on fairly quickly. It's phenomenal, definitely daily capable (I'm in the US, for context). Very glad to have owned it, but in hindsight I'd have gone SV roadster if making the same decision again. That may be partly because I haven't owned one, however. Hard to make a bad decision and the SVJ is incredibly special.

I've never owned any of them with investment in mind, but if that was a consideration longer term, I'd expect in the LHD market at least, the relative rarity of the SV and Ultimae to outperform the SVJ. Far from my area of expertise though.

If you're in the market for a Lamborghini right now, the Revuelto is the only choice that makes sense—nothing else in their lineup (past and present) even comes close.

Thank you for all of the replies, much appreciated.

I went for an STO in Grigio Acheso.

I think the STO fits in well with my other cars and hope to add an SVJ in the next 12 months too.

The car is just back from a full inspection from Lamborghini and will be picking it up in a few days so will post some photos.

Thank you for all of the valuable input.

I also agree, mental looking thing, incredible asthetics.

I would buy a Revuelto in a heartbeat but it's got batteries and it's 2 tonne. Great for people who want that but why couldn't they do a standard ICE version alongside, they'd sell loads of them.

Judging by the date of posting I take it you'd been at the sherry at the time ?
