Looking to do an engine swap, specifically an early 3.0 or 4.2tdi into an fwd 2019 auto man tge/vw crafter.
Preferably a 6 speed torque converter auto, but i believe most of these are 4wd.
Is there any 2wd variants that are not multichronic?
Or does anyone do an adaptor kit to make the 4wd variants run 2wd?
I can take care of the subframe fabrication and wiring changes.

The auto box on the back of the 3.0tdi was a ZF 6hp26.

This is a REALLY common transmission, used on BWW, Landrover, Audi and many more. This thread is interesting, as it shows how the transfer case is a seperate bolt-on assembly. https://www.fullfatrr.com/forum/post522650.html

I would guess that a little bit of ZF parts-bin swapping would see the tail replaced with a (probably BMW or Jaguar) item.

Have a look at https://www.rangerovers.net/threads/6hp26-intercha...

If you're needing to do a FWD conversion, that could be a whole trickier game, there might be sone 2.7s had a 6-speed manual that could be used.

I really dont like the 7 speed s tronic, my wife has a 3.0 q5 and the gearbox is the worst thing about it.
Tried quite a few v6 q5s and the gearshifting is similarly dimwitted in all of them.
The 8 speed in her old cayenne was great, the 8 speed in my van is great, and the 6 speed in our old allroad is fantastic.
Could the v6 mate to the 2.0 bitdi 8 speed auto?

Looking into it more an stronic 7 speed might be my only option. The 4wd has a different floorpan.
Might try a gearbox remap on the mrs car to see if it gets a bit less dimwitted.

Spent some time studying wiring diagrams, and long coding options on modules.

It looks like the sticking point may be getting the s tronic 7 speed talking to the crafter abs/esp ecu. Without a valid compatible speed signal from the abs on the canbus the tcu wont shift properly, and they are from different generations. Need to take advice.
