Hey everyone,

So i upgraded to an iphone air and ios 26 about 2 months ago. Since then the connection between my idcore carplay and my iphone kept dropping out. Annoyingly, idcore will only speak to their retailers. Fortunately, i contacted Unique Auto Developments, who were very helpful. I sent a pic of my version screen and they were able to confirm there is an update for ios 26. I purchased the usb update from them and it arrived within 2 days. The update was easy and has done the trick.

So if you you’re experiencing connection issues, it’s possibly just due an update.

Kind regards,
John

Hi John. Would you mind posting the version number they updated you to?

Does anyone know which brand/manufacturer of CarPlay unit the dealers have been using for the 2C cars over the last year or so?

Originally mine had an IDCORE unit but it was replaced a year ago due to being faulty..and I also have the iPhone 17 connection issue. It's being fixed now via an update at a dealer but no-one seems to know who makes the unit...

Hi,

Sorry for the late reply.

Yes, that’s the link. Total cost with postage was £28.

I’ll attach the update details now.

It s not your fault, lol. ?

I contacted them but no dice.

The one from Aston Martin is completely different. I guess I’ll have to contact the local dealer and see if they have any updates.

Is yours the same info screen as mine above?
Thanks in advance.

Hi Davil,

I’m guessing you have the later Vantage? Mine is the 2012, with the idcore unit fitted, which Aston Martin supplied.

Hopefully you can find out what brand you have and they’ll update it.

Kind regards,
John

Yes it is (was). It's now been updated to this version which AM Works installed, after some back and forth with AM Client Services:
It fixes the connection issue with the iPhone 17, but breaks/removes the CarPlay audio output - I now have to use the car's bluetooth connection instead.

Thats how mine works. You have to change from (say) radio to bluetooth devices in the merc command menu to get audio from carplay.

Just as an aside one thing I have noticed with BT connectivity issues is if I get in the car and start it immediately the phone doesnt always connect, but if I get in the car and wait 5 seconds before starting the engine up it nearly always connects immediately. Might be useful to someone.

When I collected my DB11 AMR the other week and had a good old root around when I got it home, I found an IDCORE Vehicle Integration Module inside one of the boot's cubby holes. Strange I thought as the CarPlay that was installed and active in the car was one from Aston Installations. I guess the previous owner had the Aston dealer fitted IDCORE device swapped out for an Aston Installations device.

As I have no idea whether or not the IDCORE was replaced because it was inoperative, glitchy or even in full working order, I couldn't say. So, if someone in the UK wants an IDCORE at no cost bar the postage, then please PM me. I'll send the first person to message me some photos.

I would love to take advantage of your kind offer for my 2020 Vantage, but your profile does not permit messages., Also, I am in Italy so I can pay for postage no problem. smile

Thanks. Mine has always been Bluetooth that was part of the V2 Aston CarPlay solution. Apparently the aux connection loses audio quality as it bypasses the audio processing. So consider it an upgrade.

I ended up just buying a wireless CarPlay dongle that connects to the USB in the passenger footwell. Works well and about 25 of your pounds.

I’ll get them to update mine in the future and then re-deploy the dongle to my VH which already has CarPlay but not wireless.

This USB route is also interesting. But correct me if I am wrong, the USB is there because of your previous CarPlay installation, correct?

Could it be possible to just install this USB without IDCore (or similar) modules and then add any wireless dongle?

It would be perfect if someone would come up with a dongle that connects to the car's USB ports in the armrest storage, but not sure if technically this is feasible.
