Folks,

Not sure why, but this video appeared in my feed this morning and thought I'd post it here for awareness and a heads-up more than anything, in case it helps any of you.

Seems like a pretty genuine honest video with a customer who was directly impacted. Worth a watch at least.

But it's not just bore score with this owners engine ...

Modified exhaust, fused electrode on spark plug 6 and a hole in one of the valves adds up to more than bore score.

Are they linked ? If so, how ??

Oh no!
I’ve a 991.1 3.8

Many years ago had a mint 996.1 C2 manual, mid 50s on miles, sold it cos I was worried about bore scoring only got 10.5 for it. Yesterday had an e mail from the guy who bought it off me!!! Car now in Canada on 130k miles with nothing major having gone wrong with it.

Just a tale to share…..I won’t be making the same mistake twice

That chap in the vid owns a 7.1 3.6. In his follow up vid, every other sentence mentions Hartech this, Hartech that - it should have a “paid promotion” banner on it. But it is already having the desired effect - to scare owners into borescoping 7.2 and 991.1 cars before purchase.

This is how internet rumours start and before you know it, the ownership proposition becomes fearful.

And the chap in the video asked me why Hartech would publish an article on borescore on the gen2 car engines if there wasn't borescore problems.

My reply to him to which he has not replied, is that they are running out of the earlier failures to repair and are trying to find work on the later gen cars ... including "preventative" capacity enlargements ... ?

This is still a question. I know that Hartech have been seeking problems on the gen2 engines which I believe they have not found and one thing is for sure, a burnt spark plug and hole in the respective piston could suggest a bore-scoring consequence rather than a cause of failure ...
